iKON Awards Team Launches New Uganda–Kenya Film Collaboration
The iKON Awards team has embarked on another cross-border film project, this time uniting Ugandan and Kenyan creatives under a production supported by Reach A Hand Uganda, Imara TV and UNESCO, expanding the platform’s growing regional influence after its recent Nigeria partnership.

When the iKON Awards team clinched a deal to co-produce a movie titled Dambe — featuring Ugandans and Nigerians — many assumed the partnership marked the end of their cross-border projects for now.

There was little expectation that another production would follow so quickly.

That assumption has been overturned. News has emerged that the team has secured yet another major collaboration, this time bringing together Ugandan and Kenyan talent.

The development follows the successful iKON Activate, Kenya edition, which took place last month, paving the way for a new co-production aimed at amplifying African stories and strengthening regional creative ties.

Although the official title and full Kenyan cast list remain under wraps, it is confirmed that the movie is sponsored by Reach A Hand Uganda, Imara TV and UNESCO, in partnership with the iKON Awards under the O3plus project — an initiative whose name stands for Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future.

Ugandan actors Nicholleta Aber, Faith Kirabo and Nathan Katongole have been selected to play leading roles in the production, which will spotlight gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies and transactional sex among young people.

Humphrey Nabimanya, CEO of the iKON Awards, has consistently stressed the importance of telling impactful and relatable African stories through collaboration as a means of promoting the region’s creative industries.

The new Uganda–Kenya film project builds on that vision by addressing issues affecting young people through a shared production experience.

With the momentum from the Nigerian partnership still strong, this latest venture further reinforces the iKON Awards team’s role in shaping regional cinema and elevating East African narratives for global audiences.

Viewers can expect behind-the-scenes footage, cast interviews and an eventual premiere as production progresses.
